MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - It was another successful year for the annual Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive!

Thanks to your generosity, more than $46,000 was raised for the Mid-South Food Bank. We crushed our goal of $35,000 and we couldn’t have done it without you.

The money raised will provide more than 136,000 meals for families in need this holiday season across 31 counties that the food bank serves.

In the last couple of years during the pandemic, the food bank has worked hard to distribute food to families who’ve been financially impacted. In 2020, the food bank distributed more than three times the amount they have in previous years. Foodbank CEO and President Cathy Pope says the need hasn’t gone away.

“We’ve had so many people that are trying to catch up from being out of work, businesses shut down,” said Pope. “We’re really there to support those families to help them get back on their feet. That’s why it’s really so important this year that we do well.”

Tuesday night, Auctioneer John Roebuck added $5,000 and Pat Halloran of Positively Memphis donated another $3,000.

But, like Pope says, the need is year-round. If you would like to donate to the Mid-South Food Bank, you can do so anytime online at mid-southfoodbank.org.

Thank you Mid-South.
