MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis-Shelby County COVID task force gave an update on vaccination and COVID-19 numbers during a press conference Thursday afternoon, as well as their thoughts on the upcoming holiday season.

Shelby County Health Department Michelle Taylor said to remember that the mask mandate and other safety measures are most likely going to continue throughout the end of this year. She says, even if the numbers drop near zero, we should continue to wear masks and socially distance when possible to help move forward towards the end of the pandemic.

Taylor says that while numbers are dropping there could always be another surge or variant that could cause a spike in cases again, and those practices will help keep numbers from spiking as high as they did in the summer.

Taylor says they know people will be traveling to be with friends and family for the holidays, and she encourages everyone to be as safe as possible so Shelby County can have a great holiday season.
